| The HSA professional staff is led by Mr. Fred Bolton and Mr. Dave Volz, both former researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory. These men together bring more than 45 years of HazMat science and HazMat response experience to our work. HSA employs other skilled staff, and can also draw on the resources of TMC, its parent company, for professional support in science, technology, and other disciplines. The result is a solid team combining practical, hands-on experience with state-of-the-art technology to enhance HazMat safety .
You might already know these men from their prior work, but if you don't here is a short summary on each.
Fred Bolton, Principal Investigator for Decontamination Research:
Fred Bolton is a licensed professional engineer (safety), a certified industrial hygienist, and a certified CSTI Outreach Instructor with nearly 30 years experience.
He held a variety of positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) from 1983 until 2006, when he joined TMC. During his time at LANL, he spent ten years as a senior member of the Hazardous Materials Response Group.
Among his assignments, he was principal investigator for the Contaminated Doffing Research Program conduced by LANL. He also served as a member of the Accident Response Group, providing technical safety and industrial hygiene support to the members of the Nuclear Emergency Response Program.
Prior to working with Hazardous Materials Response Group, Fred spent 11 years in the LANL Industrial Hygiene and Safety Group, and two years in the LANL Safety Group. Fred began his career as a safety and loss prevention engineer at Phillips Petroleum Company.
Fred holds B. S. and M. S. degrees in safety engineering and industrial hygiene from Texas A&M University. He has published numerous technical articles, given presentations on HAZMAT safety and similar issues, and been an instructor at the University of Oklahoma, the California Specialized Training Institute, LANL's Outreach Training program, and various military and first responder programs throughout the U.S.
Dave Volz, Principal Investigator for Decontamination Training:
Dave Volz is a highly experienced HAZMAT response professional, an award-winning subject matter expert and trainer, and a recipient of the Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) Outstanding Innovations Patent recognition award.
Dave joined LANL in 1983, and spent eight years in its Waste Management Group. He then joined the Hazardous Materials Response Group, where he worked as a senior member until joining HSA.
Dave was principal investigator for LANL's Decontamination Proficiency Testing program, where he played a key role in improving the HAZMAT survival skills of first responders around the nation. He has worked with firefighters, as well as personnel from the law enforcement, public health, emergency medical care and other communities.
A highly experienced trainer and speaker, Dave served as both team leader and group training officer for the LANL Hazardous Materials Team. He has served as an instructor at the University of Oklahoma, New Mexico State University, and numerous federal, state and local agencies. His publications have appeared in numerous professional and technical journals.
